We were honored to have the Commanding Officer of Camp Lejeune, Col. Daniel Lecce hand the first piece of cake to Gene Blick, the oldest Marine, and then it was passed to the youngest Marine, Mindy Decker. Gayle Horn, secretary of NC-1 assists in the ceremony.   The Women Marines Association, NC-1, Tarheel Chapter was honored by the Jacksonville Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, #9133 on 13 February 2012 at the Post Home. We participated in a cake cutting ceremony and dinner honoring women in the Marine Corps. NC-1 celebrates the 69th Anniversary of Women in the Marine Corps at the School of infantry-East, Camp Geiger on 15 February 2012. The Tarheel Chapter provided Linda's historical display for everyone to enjoy. The 2nd Marine Division band played the "March of the Women Marines", "National Anthem", and other traditional music during the ceremony. GySgt Jeannine Cressman narrated the sequence of events. The Commanding Officer, Col. B. J. Fitzpatrick, passed the first piece of cake to the guest of honor--BGen Lori Reynolds, CO of Eastern Recuriting Region, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. Then, it was given to Gene Blick, the oldest Marine, and next to the youngest Marine of six months.  BGen Lori Reynolds, Commanding General of Eastern Recruiting Region and Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC was the guest speaker.  |
